Career Placement, Inc., one of Houston's leading staffing firms,
has been in operation since 1966. In order to perform full agency
functions, Career Placement and Kenneth C. Kern Search Consultants
affiliated our joint operations in August of 1975. This affiliation
enables us to effectively perform all personnel services - office/clerical,
temporary and professional staffing. We are a select organization
and we feel that professional experience, totally involved principals
and a proven work record have made and maintained our excellent
reputation in the Houston market. In honor of our distinguished
service to Houston and the State of Texas, we have received numerous
awards including the Most Outstanding Temporary Service in Houston,

Professional Organizations
Through our association with professional organizations like Texas
Association of Staffing (TAS), Houston Area Association of Personnel
Consultants (HAAPC) and Texas Association of Personnel Consultants
(TAPC), we continue to learn and share information that will aid
our industry and our client companies.
Our employees serve on numerous boards of directors and volunteer
their time with various charity organizations in order to assist
in our community. We are proud to help those who are less fortunate
and through our service and contributions, we are glad to see
the efforts of our labor assist those in need.

Joni Fichter, CTS and Joyce Cameron, both principals, as well
as Shannon Hatton and Melissa Harrell, both Staffing Coordinators,

Ken Kern, principal, Charlotte Kern Stowe, CPC and Julian Langham
are available to help with your professional needs.
Since two-thirds of Career Placement is owned by women, we qualify
and are registered with the City of Houston as a minority owned
business. This is important to many companies with whom we work
because they are required to utilize a certain percentage of M/W/DBE
business annually.
In order to exceed industry expectations, members of our staff
are encouraged to become certified as professionals in our industry.
There are three certifications programs including:
- Certified Temporary Staffing Specialist (CTS) is conferred upon
successful completion of an examination program and the satisfaction
of rigid ethical and experience requirements. One must be an owner,
partner, manager, or full-time staff employee engaged in the staffing
industry for a minimum of two years to sit for this exam. He/she
must possess knowledge of laws affecting hiring and employment
practices, as well as be committed to excellence in service and
high ethical standards.
- Certified Personnel Consultant (CPC) is administered in the same
manner as the CTS for those specializing in regular/permanent
placement. The CPC certification has the same rigid ethical and
experience requirements as listed above.
- Texas Education and Accreditation Council (TEAC) is a self-study
course and evaluation of the policies and procedures of the personnel
industry which is recognized by the Texas Department of Licensing
and Regulation. This is for employees who have been in the industry
less than two years. It helps staffing professionals learn the
industry, its expectations, requirements, guidelines and legal
restrictions.
Recruiting and Screening Process
Referrals (professional and personal), newspaper and professional
publication advertising, utilization of the internet, reactivation
of previous applicants and recruitment at colleges and specialized
training schools are all ways in which we obtain applicants. We
treat our applicants in a professional, friendly manner, which
builds loyalty to Career Placement. Many of our clients were former
applicants and we have placed many former clients. Friends and
acquaintances through professional and volunteer organizations
to which we belong are also great recruiting sources.
By appointment only, applicants undergo a thorough screening and
interview process including testing, training, reference and criminal
background checks. Drug screening is done on a random basis, as
well.
All of our applicants are tested in any of the following applicable
areas by the listed methods:
- Typing (Five minute test with net/gross recorded score).
- Shorthand (By record and read back to the tester).
- Dictaphone (Take information from tape and type in proper form
on a P.C.).
- Ten-key (Five minute test including addition, subtraction, multiplication,
division, subtotals, totals, etc. on a 10-Key pad).
- Word Processing (Specialized, on equipment timed test including
creation, deletion, revision, spreadsheet and graphics usage,
etc. of documents).
- Spelling (Fifty of the most misspelled words in the English language
with the requirement that each incorrect one be corrected on this
written test).
- Data Entry (On equipment timed test which evaluates keystrokes
per hour, documents per hour and error rate).
- Bookkeeping (Written test including debits, credits, general ledger,
tax, etc.).
Word processing cross-training is offered on all Windows based
applications on QWIZ. We, as well as our client companies, have
found QWIZ to be an outstanding training and evaluation method.
It is very specific and can be customized to a particular client's
needs.
Staffing Methods
Temporary
Temporaries can be utilized for short or long term staffing shortages
and rates depend upon the necessary skill level and background
requirements.
Temporary to Regular
Our temporaries may go temp to regular with our client companies.
Our liquidation time is sixty (60) working days from date of notification.
If a client wishes to hire an applicant immediately, a fee of
1% per thousand of the annual salary will be charged.
Payrolling
Career Placement's clients' payrolling needs are handled under
the same direction and policies as our regular and temporary staffing
divisions. The payrolling rate covers the processing of checks,
unemployment, workers' compensation and all other applicable taxes.
Our payrolling of an employee releases you from any of these factors.
Intern Staffing
Career Placement provides payrolling services for numerous client
companies who sponsor intern programs. Career Placement holds
on-site orientation sessions, delivers weekly paychecks and administers
the total program to relieve human resources departments of this
time-consuming responsibility. For more information, call the

necessary specifications.
Regular Staffing
Career Placement has a regular staffing division and our fees
are based on 1% per thousand of the annual salary of the applicant.
HR Extension
Career Placement offers on- and off-site staffing to volume users.
Individual programs will be specialized to meet the needs of clients.
Paying Our Temporaries
Payroll for temporary employees is computerized and done within
our office. Checks and invoices are issued the Tuesday following
the pay period. Checks may be mailed, picked-up or delivered.
Invoices may be individualized, departmentalized, all temporaries
listed on one invoice, each on a separate invoice, include a special
billing message or code, etc. We structure this according to the
request of each individual client.
